Closing Ceremony for the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar

The Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup promises to be a memorable tournament for the one million fans expected in the Gulf nation come November 21 to December 18, 2022.

The opening ceremony will be special as the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, has requested FIFA’s special performance to stage a fireworks performance.

But with all the attractions lined up for fans at the month-long showcase of football, it is the closing ceremony that fans should look forward to the most.

Here is all the information that has been revealed on the closing ceremony of the 22nd edition of the World Cup, which will be held on December 18, 2022.

Venue for closing ceremony

The Lusail National Stadium will host the closing ceremony of the 2022 World Cup on December 18.

It is Qatar’s largest football stadium with a capacity of 80,000 people and it will host ten games in the tournament. The Lusail Stadium is also set to be a historic venue for a number of reasons.

First, the stadium which will be the centerpiece of the brand-new metropolis of Lusail City, created in anticipation of the World Cup and to boost the country’s tourism capital.

Second, the government of Qatar plans to turn the venue to a community centre after the World Cup to immortalize the celebration of the 2022 Qatar National Day and the closing ceremony of the first World Cup to be held in the Middle East.

It was established in 2007 by Sheikh Al Thani, then crown prince of the nation and will coincide with the closing ceremony of the World Cup, of which he is directly involved in the planning.

The national day is typically celebrated with a fireworks show, a show by the Qatari Air Force with their various aircrafts, parades by the different parastatals in charge of life in Qatar, and an automobiles display.

With the World Cup closing ceremony happening on that day, the celebration will pay homage to the fact that they are the first Middle Eastern nation to host the global showpiece.
